One of the best things to do in Ocean Shores is biking around town, as the area is very bike-friendly. You can bring your own bike if you have one or rent them from several different companies.  We especially like renting because they’ve got the great electric bikes that really give you the extra power you need when getting through the soft sand and out to the more compact sand near the water.

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While some recent findings contradict that popular idea, it does remain that breakfast is probably the most varied meal of the day, especially when you’re picking one of these breakfast restaurants in Ocean Shores.

After all, when else can you devour a stack of pancakes while one of your friends tucks into bacon and eggs and the other nibbles on avocado toast? It’s this kind of variety that makes going out for breakfast such a delicious treat, especially in Ocean Shores.

If you’re in the area looking for ‘breakfast restaurants near me’, look no further. Read on to find out the top five breakfast restaurants in Ocean Shores!

1. Linda’s Bakery Cafe

Ocean Shores has a great selection of quality places to eat, but you’ll find one of the best breakfast restaurant options in Ocean Shores at Linda’s Bakery Cafe.

For those with a sweet tooth, the pies and pastries are all made from scratch with real butter and quality ingredients. If savory’s more your style, the ham and cheese croissant, and full breakfast are popular options you won’t want to miss.

As well as great food, this spot has a great reputation for friendly servers who will always go the extra mile. So, even if you’re only in Ocean Shores for a short stay, you’re sure to come back to Linda’s! And don’t forget to try their espresso.

2. Ocean Beach Roasters & Bistro

Ocean Beach Roasters & Bistro is great for lunch and dinner, but it’s also perfect for breakfast, which is served from 9 am until 1 pm.

Highlights on the breakfast menu include crab cake Benedict, sausage apple hash and marionberry pancakes. They also do a range of omelets and the classic biscuits and gravy too. They have a case full of fresh pastries and nearly any coffee creation you desire. This style is modern and welcoming, with smiles by every employee and we all commented, these guys just do things right. The owner is friendly and often serves you the food. Highly recommend coming back for lunch as well. Their sandwiches were awesome! #yum

3. Our Place

With large portions and a varied breakfast menu, Our Place definitely deserves a place on our list of the best Ocean Shores local breakfast restaurants.

Highlights include the eggs Benedict omelet, biscuits and gravy with sausage, and tasty homemade pies and pastries.

This is a no-frills joint where you serve yourself coffee and get your own cutlery. But when the food’s this good and the prices are fair, you won’t hear any complaints from us. Locals would also agree, Our Place restaurant is probably the top spot in Ocean Shores for breakfast.

4. Sunny Beach Cafe

Ocean Shore’s Sunny Beach Cafe is another great place to head a delicious breakfast. Open Wed – Sun, Sunny Beach Cafe really brings out the sun on those cold rainy days. This mom and pop style restaurant is welcoming and enjoyable. Say hi to a local, their all pleasant and love chatting about their town.

With a range of breakfast options, including Belgian waffles, omelets, oatmeal, and bacon and eggs, there’s something for all tastes. The freshly baked bread is also a big hit with everyone who comes here.

5. RipTide Coffee Co.

For laid-back, cozy beach vibes and a wide range of delicious coffees, RipTide Coffee Co. is a great breakfast spot near the Oyhut Wildlife Area. Oyhut is on the far side of town, but worth the scenic drive if you’ve not been to the south end of the penninsula.

BONUS: Homeport Restaurant

This list would not be complete without mentioning Homeport Restaurant. Open all winter long with friendly staff and even friendlier portions, Homeport had a great selection that fits a families needs for warm breakfast at a reasonable cost. Don’t let the older decor persuade you otherwise, it’s a great spot for a very good breakfast. Try the omelette. We thought about returning on day 2 for another! #yummybreakfast

Ocean Shores Breakfast Restaurants

Remember, whether you’re a local or you’re planning to visit Ocean Shores, you’re in the right place.

Here at Clever Neighbor, we’ve got all the information you need to make the most of your time in Ocean Shores. From the best hotels to exciting local activities, we’re here to guide you!

Horseback Riding in ocean shores wa

Getting ready to take the kids on a vacation and need to find family friendly things to do in Ocean Shores?

With great restaurants and plenty of fun activities, there are so many things to do in Ocean Shores, WA, you’ll want to be sure to spend some time there.

The state of Washington is full of natural beauty. So put your kids’ devices away and introduce them to some of the wonders the state has to offer.

5 Things to Do in Ocean Shores, WA Your Kids Will Love

Three activities on our list involve getting out into the great outdoors. And there’s a lot for the eyes to feast upon in Washington.

But the two others are feasts for different senses.

1. Go Horseback Riding

Whether you’re brand spanking new to horseback riding or a seasoned equestrian, you can find some wonderful horseback riding along the beaches at Ocean Shores.

There are stables that have tour guides who will take your family on a ride along the beach. They’ll also teach your kids all about horse care, from riding to feeding to grooming. And for the smaller children who don’t feel as secure, there are supervised indoor and outdoor arenas.

For the more seasoned riders, Ocean Shores also offers Chenois Creek horse rentals to take on your own unguided ride along the beach.

2. Sugar up at Murphy’s Candy & Ice Cream

What kid doesn’t like candy and ice cream? (Or at least one of them!)

Okay, so you probably don’t want to load your kids up on too much sugar. But they’ll be taken by the entire wall of saltwater taffy in a wide array of colors. And the taffy is available for purchase by the bucket!

Murphy’s also boasts a wide variety of amazing ice cream flavors that are perfectly nestled in their delicious waffle cones.

And since the establishment is right near the ocean, it’s a great place to stop at before or after your beach adventures.

3. Watch for Whales

Even if you live near the ocean, there’s a good chance you’re not getting an eyeful of whales swimming by.

But since this part of the Pacific is a regular travel route for whales, it offers the opportunity for your kids to see these majestic creatures. So be sure to book a space with either Westport Whale Watch or Advantage Charters for a fun family friendly thing to do in Ocean Shores.

4. Check out The North Jetty

There’s something magical about poking around the ocean shore and looking at all the little (and not so little) creatures.

The North Jetty provides just that. In spite of the name, this protrusion is actually the farthest south you can go in Ocean Shores. And because of the way it juts out into the water, it’s a great place to find crabs hiding under rocks and colorful starfish in the crashing waves.

As always, do not put yourself in harms way. The waters of Ocean Shores are very powerful, and shifting tides can leave you stranded! Make sure to stay in groups, and be aware of the tide charts when exploring the beaches.

5. Drop in to a Family Friendly Fun Center

Okay. Some days the kids just want to be kids and get a little wild.

So if you happen upon one of those days, take them to Pacific Paradise or Playtime Family Fun.

Both of these centers are all about family fun with arcades, miniature golf, and go-karts. They are a great way to help your kids get rid of that excess energy!

Take in the Wonders of Washington

With so many interesting family friendly things to do in Ocean Shores, WA, your kids are sure to find something they’ll love.

And you’ll be giving them a vacation they’ll never forget.

Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area Ocean Shores WA

Are you ready to escape to Washington’s Coast?

Your trip to Ocean Shores isn’t complete without a visit to the Oyhut unit of the Johns River Wildlife Area. The Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area is one of the region’s most popular birding and hunting areas. It’s also one of only four places in Washington state to spot a Western Snowy Plover (read on to learn more).

Read our full guide to visiting the Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area before your next trip to the Ocean Shores Peninsula.

How to Get to the Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area

You’ll find these 683 acres of wild bliss situated on the south end of the Ocean Shores Peninsula.

Access is via downtown Ocean Shores. From downtown, follow Point Brown Avenue south until you reach Toquin Avenue. Then, turn right.

The park is unassuming and features an undeveloped parking area with no restrooms or any other facilities.

What You’ll See at Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area

The Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area is a quiet spot on the southwest Washington coast. Vehicles aren’t allowed into the park, and there is no trail system in the wildlife area.

Because it’s quiet and the trails keep visitors out of habitats, it’s a great place to spot wildlife and waterfowl in particular.

A visit to the recreation area may include spotting:

  • Birds of prey
  • Marine birds
  • Eagles
  • Waterfowl
  • Wading birds
  • Songbirds
  • Deer
  • Small mammals

The jewel in the crown of this park is the Western snowy plover. Snowy plowers are small birds that spend their time on the shore, dashing in and out of the crashing waves like a small child at play.

When you see them running from the water, they’re not at play. Snowy plovers enjoy a diet of marine worms, mollusks, and crustaceans.

Snowy plovers love to nest on sandy beaches, but human interaction often disrupts their ocean-front lifestyle. As a result, their populations continue to decline.

Oyhut is one of four places in Washington that they have a safe breeding ground, and it’s the perfect place to spot them – from a distance.

Looking for more things to do in the area? Check out our post on the best things to do in Ocean Shores.

What to Pack for a Trip to Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area

Local birds are a huge draw for tourists, birders and general nature enthusiasts alike. Whether you arrive exclusively for birding or just hope to spot a few on your way, a few essential items will help you make the most of your trip to Oyhut and Ocean Shores.

Birding Tools

Enthusiasts and professionals alike will benefit from binoculars in the Oyhut park. Like many other parks in the coastal area, much of Oyhut serves as protected land for local birds.

Informational trails exist but are limited. Formal trails across the 683-acres aren’t in place. Unless you get lucky, much of the spotting you’ll do will be in the distance.

A pair of binoculars will help you catch a glimpse of some of the best birding the area has to offer. You don’t need to bring an expensive pair. Even your smaller, backup binoculars will do.

Your camera is also a must on any vacation. Unless you’re a professional who is shooting for publication, a superzoom camera should do the trick. Superzoom cameras are small, portable, and helpful for working with small objects in the distance.

Lighting and motion are a challenge, but checking the weather and sunrise forecast should offset some photography challenges.

If you have space in your luggage, bring a spotting scope to make life easier. More than one scope is always better, but if you’re flying to Washington state, packing a scope is optional.

Looking for the perfect birding guide to bring with you? The North Cascades Audobon Society recommends the following titles:

  • Peterson Field Guides/Advanced Birding
  • Shorebirds of the Pacific Northwest
  • A Birder’s Guide to Coastal Washington
  • National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America
  • A Guide to Bird Finding in Washington
  • The Audubon Society of Encyclopedia of North American Birds
  • The Birder’s Handbook

What to Wear

Don’t forget to pack plenty of light layers. Summers can be warm but prepare for an ocean breeze and intermittent rain. The Washington coast isn’t as rainy as the interior, but waterproof outer layers never hurt.

Be sure to pack a day pack in your suitcase to carry your gear as well as any rain covers, water bottles, and charging packs for boosting up electronics.

Where to Stay

There’s no shortage of vacation rentals or beach homes in Ocean Shores and on the Ocean Shores area in general.

Finding the Right Amenities

Many customers believe pricing to be the main factor in choosing their accommodations for a trip. However, finding the amenities that best suit your family’s needs should be at the top of the list.

I many cases, the extra cost of the room may save you in the overall cost of the trip. Lodging that includes complimentary breakfast is a big one along with pools, outdoor activities or game rooms to entertain the kids for “free.”

Lodging that offers shuttle service, or is close to public transportation may be convenient if you’re planning trips to popular locations in the area. Not having to drive is one less headache for you and your family.

Look for the amenities that best accommodate your reason for visiting Ocean Shores.

Tent, Trailer, House or Hotel

There are a variety of options in Ocean shores, from sleeping in a tent near the sandy dunes, to enjoying breakfast in bed with a view of the ocean.

One of the best aspects of camping in Ocean Shores is your close proximity to the amenities of the city. Shopping and restaurants are just a short drive, walk or bike ride away.

Often overlooked, are vacation rentals. Some families book the same rental home year after year. This allows your family the consistency of owning a beach house, without the year round costs.

Hotels are a great option if you are focused more on the activities than the stay. Let the staff take care of your needs. Many hotels offer extra perks like free breakfast, access to a pool or workout area as well as specialty concierge service. Make sure to ask about any added perks!

Consider a Bed & Breakfast!

Most bed and breakfast properties are viewed as cozy and comfortable, perfect for quick and fun family adventures. However make sure to check ahead if they allow children or pets.

B&Bs, can offer the comfort of a down home atmosphere, with the convenience of big hotel service. Again the breakfast aspect is a huge selling point. Rather than eating granola bars and hotel coffee, you are often treated to an amazing home cooked meal.

A lot of your needs taken care of by the owners. They can help you make reservations for local events, and can offer first hand knowledge of the area.

Travel Tip: Curious about where to dine? Ask your host if they have any recommendations, or menus for restaurants in the area.

Bed and Breakfasts are often overlooked, meaning you could find great value on a weekend that seems to be booked solid.

Customer Reviews are Important

Customer reviews have a major impact on the perception of a lodging property. A string of good or bad reviews can determine the growth or decline of the property’s reputation.

This being said, it’s important to use good judgement in determining if a review is truthful or not.

Things you want to look for when going on review websites are a variety of comments about the cleanliness of the hotel, the staff’s helpfulness when dealing with a problem (whether they were helpful or not) and guest pictures of the property.

Most review sites allow guests to post their own pictures online. This can help you get a first hand account of the accommodations beyond the professional, management approved pictures.

If the hotel has pictures online of bugs, maintenance problems, etc. you may want to look at a different property altogether. Not everyone’s review can be taken with 100% truth but a picture can confirm the claims in a negative review.

If you see glowing reviews and constant praise for the staff and the quality of the amenities you have a property that could be a sure-fire home run.

Do your research and come up with a small list of properties your family would not mind staying at.

Last Minute Booking

You may see television commercials or online ads urging you to use third party booking sites. They often claim to have the best last minute deals when booking a room. While this can be true, it’s not always the case.

It’s advisable not to show up on a busy weekend looking for a room. Make sure to call ahead of time. There’s a good chance the property has a handful of rooms left to sell you may be able to bargain a better rate.

Advanced Booking

If you don’t want to wait until the last minute, book your room in advance directly on the property’s website. Often this can result in better deals than you’d expect.

Can you imagine saving $200 per night because you booked a room for a busy summer weekend ten months in advance? It can happen and it does happen all of the time.

Find the best pricing option on your trip and save yourself a chunk of money in the process.

Loyalty Rewards

Having membership in groups like AAA or AARP can be a great way to get discounts. Make sure to ask if the Hotel offers any such discounts. Also check with any organizations that you are a part of, to see if they have any special partnerships with hotel chains.

Most major chains such as Hilton or Marriott have taken an aggressive approach for guests booking directly with them. The extra incentive of a discount for loyalty members helps guests find the best deals.

Location, Location, Location…

Location is always a key component when traveling. It has the potential to make or break a trip. Maybe you want to be close to the action, or perhaps you want to be as isolated as possible!

Some of the more popular things to do in Ocean Shores include Horseback riding, walking along the beaches, shopping the shops, going to the family fun centers and boating in the area lakes and canals.

While the peninsula is only six miles long, the speed limit is restricted. Keep this in mind when booking a location. You may not want to book a spot near the North Jetty if your kids plan to be on go-carts and bumper boats for the whole trip. However if enjoying the peace and quiet of nature is high on your list, the North end of the Peninsula may be perfect for you and your family.

There is such a variety of things to do in the Ocean Shores area. Staying at a location close to the things you want to do is important.
